Everyone knows this is the month for the beautiful color red...and it happens to be one of my favorite colors! The place where I really incorporated this color in my home is in my craft room...there is a lot of red, white and blue in my room...and it always feels so festive! I wish I could add more, but frankly, it's kind of a tiny room and is already a bit overcrowded!

Quick post before going to work this morning! This is a card I made for the Featured Stamper Challenge on Split Coast Stampers (SCS)...a stamper, Shirley Quarrey, was chosen to be featured and everyone has to CASE (copy and share everything) one of her cards. Here is my card and here is my post on SCS.

This card gave me the opportunity to use my new SU Bigz Scallop circle and I love it!...a chance to make a really fun card....I haven't tested it in an envelope, yet! The paper is Basic Gray CS and Subtles DSP plus Subtles and Neutrals buttons with Linen thread....also used the Blossoms and 5-petal punches!

Twofer!

I have a"twofer" today.....One card...Two Challenges! The first Challenge is the Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge and the second is the Paper Players Color Challenge...here is the sketch...

I probably would not have used Blushing Bride with Calypso Coral, but that was the Challenge! Pear Pizzazz was the "moderator" between these two "unmatchy" (to me) colors. I set these three colors into a sketch by Margaret Moody for Pals Paper Arts. As a new Stampin' Up! Demo, I don't own a lot of the basics (as yet!), so I sometimes have to use "old stuff". So my Oval for the image is made from a Nestability die....here is the card recipe:

Stamps: Triple Treat Flower (from the Sale-A-Bration ...SAB...catalog, however this stamp was sent to me with my beautiful Starter Kit when I became a Demo recently)....this stamp also coordinates with several SU punches to get more WOW from the stamp, but isn't it beautiful just by itself...so intricate...love the detail!

The decorative strip at the top of the card is from Fresh Vintage (also in the new SAB...ordering starts Jan. 24th!), and the message is from Pennant Parade. Ink: Calypso Coral, Blushing Bride, and Pear Pizzazz Paper: DSP..Everyday Enchantment (SAB) and Pear Pizzazz CS Accessories: Brads (SAB)...match DSP and the large brad is from Antique brads, Calypso Coral ribbon (SAB) Tools: Big Shot Texturz Plate..Backgrounds 1 (dots on the CS), and 1" circle punch (SU).

I'm not really a simple and clean stamper, so you will see sponging on most of my projects!

Aren't those Everyday Enchantment brads just pretty? And think how many ways you could use that decorative strip from Fresh Vintage....

Hymn and Scripture Challenge #1

Patter Cross from Triple the Scraps blog has a new challenge that started 2 weeks ago....the Hymn and Scripture Challenge (you can see the button for this challenge on the right side of my blog...click into it and you will go to the challenge)...Every 2 weeks, she posts a study on a particular hymn, its author and a related verse...the reader's challenge is to papercraft the hymn and a verse of choice or just read along.

One resource, besides the Bible, that she is using is this book, Near to the Heart of God by Robert J. Morgan............I bought one for my Kindle so that I could follow along...she won't be covering every hymn in the book, but the stories are so interesting and very inspirational...

I'm going to store my creations in a 6x6 album that has protective sheets for each 6x6 page...here is my entry for the first challenge...Yes, I'm late....but as they say, better late than never!

The Day After....

Whew! It's the day after my first Blog Hop with the Pals team and it was a whirlwind of beautiful projects, sweet comments, and new associations! When it's all said and done...I loved it!

The name of the DSP I used is Twitterpated ... don't look for that word in the dictionary...it's not there! I suppose it means something like overcome with love...anyway, I love this paper because it's so feminine! The colors of the cardstock I used match this DSP: Baja Breeze and Blushing Bride. The message is from the stamp set, P. S. I Love You (Occasions Mini) and the heart is from the set, Sprinkled Expressions.....soooo cute...wait till you see it! (SAB catalog...starts Jan. 24).
Ink: Cherry Cobbler (Riding Hood Red is suggested, but I love Cherry Cobbler!)....sponged edges of CS with Baja Breeze and Blushing Bride.
Accessories: 5mm Pearls, Cherry Cobbler scalloped ribbon
Tools: SU Scalloped punch and corner punch and check those new Framelits Labels ...those are dies!
The top frame is lifted up with Stampin' dimensionals.....love those little critters!

These sweet cookies were made from the Shortbread recipe that comes with the Holiday Sweet Pressed Cookie Stamps (p.40 of the Occasions Mini)....I loved the smell of shortbread wafting through my home! And they were so easy to just press and bake! Then a few red sprinkles after baking really makes the hearts stand out...

These would make a wonderful gift for your Valentine!

Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge....Today!

PPA Color Challenge This is my card for the PPA Color Challenge...1st PPA challenge of 2012....I really did face a challenge with these colors because I've been "absent" from Stampin' Up! for about 3 years and I had no current matching products! (altho PPA does not require Stampin' Up! only)....like matching brads, ribbon, and designer paper...By some miracle I had brads which are still in the catalog! ...and the punches! The colors seem a bit distorted....no doubt my photography skills need to improve! I padded a box with white foam, thinking I could use it to photograph cards, however when I came home...Sophie (the cat) had shredded it! So I need to find a way to create a "white light" environment for taking pictures.

So cold outside this morning (for SoCal). Ruby and I hurried through her walk....well, I made Ruby hurry. Ruby, of course, was wearing her fur coat and was quite content!

We are recording the Rose Parade for later viewing and the new HGTV Dream Home in Utah...I love HGTV! What about that Mike Holmes?....whoa!

Well, onward...here is the tiny card I made for a sweet neighbor who brought me a tin of cookies and candy for Christmas: Just a little 3x3, but check out the envelope especially made for the card! I got this idea from my Stampin' Up! "Fearless Leader", Mary Fish, and I was so pleased with the way it turned out.

2012 is Here!

Happy New Year! I gave up on New Year's resolutions years ago....can you guess why? You're right! Because I don't keep them! As the years have flown by....I'm just satisfied to be a child of God and to look to him for resolutions and goals in prayer.
Ruby, Sophie and I are looking forward to a quiet day with some organizing of my craft room. It's a tiny room and is greatly in need of re-organization. My darling son just put up a ribbon holder for me..(picture later)....every new item requires lots of room re-planning. Stampin' Up! retires their items after a bit and since I took a little vacation from stamping....I have lots of retired stamps and products that need to be separated from the new....but I'll be doing 2 things I love...organizing and stamping! What better way to start the new year!
I'll have a picture of a tiny thank you card later that I made yesterday while talking on the phone with my BFF in Colorado. Love little 3x3 cards!

Interesting that the Rose Parade is tomorrow, huh? I read that the parade started the tradition of "never on Sunday" (when Jan. 1 is on a Sunday) in the 1800's so that the horses did not disturb people in worship services along the parade path.....what a sweet tradition!

Feeling Full?

Does anyone else feel full all the time since the holidays? I do still get hungry, but a few minutes of eating and I'm full! But, do I stop eating? Mmmmm....No! This unpleasant after-effect of overeating during Thanksgiving and Christmas is always an easily forgotten memory when the holidays roll around every year....If only all this food energized me! Sugar has a way of turning me into a snail...dragging itself everywhere...

If I can just pull myself over to my juicer, I'm sure a few liquid meals would begin to get me back into the "fast lane". I've been looking for the perfect juicer almost all of my adult life...and I've had several.

Here's my latest....it's a "slow" juicer...called a masticating juicer...sounds icky, but works well to get all the juice out of the vegetable or fruit that is juiced. The juice is really quite tasty...of course there is the preparation, but it's worth it! It will take a bit of time to get rid of the sugar craving (maybe the rest of my life). My favorite juice right now is carrots, parsley, and kale....sometimes I throw in a small apple and some ginger. This juicer needs to be on my New Year's resolution list along with self-discipline! Happy last day of 2011!

This card was made for a member of my team at work who was my first blog follower!
The paper was from a packet I purchased from Taylored Expressions awhile ago along with the matching lace and ribbon. Don't you love being able to easily match products? That's just one of the things I love about Stampin' Up....the "matchiness" of the products. Here I've used the Create a Cupcake stamps in addition to the punch that matches the stamps: Cupcake Builder

I stamped the inside and edge of the envie with an SU stamp: Easy Events....single stamps that celebrate special events.

Here is a close-up of the punched cupcake...love the script message! The pretty shapes are by Spellbinders and pearls from Zva. Twinkling candle by yellow Stickles.

The Busiest Season of the Year!

I really dislike feeling frantic about trying to get so many things done this time of year....it's a time of celebration of our Lord's birth and being with family and friends....connecting with people we only hear from occasionally. Shouldn't this time of year be more serene...more joyful? My mind is filled with what I have to do next and how I can cut a few corners in order to accomplish what seems absolutely necessary....it's easy to miss the point, isn't it? I know, however that it always works out....the day after Christmas, there are always great memories and the things that just didn't get done don't matter that much....hopefully, these thoughts will help me get through the next week with a gracious attitude.

Who likes Lofthouse cookies? I can't imagine that anyone has not tasted these soft, scrumptious cookies! I was blown away the other day to actually find a recipe for them on one of my food blogs....I'm going to try and find the time to bake some soon. The ones in the picture are, of course, the
Christmas version.

Yum!

I'm off to bake, clean and organize with Ruby at my side! Sophie can't be bothered....

I'm a Hobby demo right now, but who knows what the future holds? I'm not sure how this new connection will affect the blog, but I know it will be a good thing.

Last Day of Vacation!

Well, this is it...last day to lounge with Ruby whenever I want to stop and enjoy just being with her at home...don't I sound sad? Actually, I will miss her when I return to work tomorrow....I certainly have not finished all I had planned to do, but there will be other times....the big squeeze right now is getting some cards finished and getting some recipes ready for Christmas.

I went to my BSF group's Christmas fellowship yesterday...such a sweet, satisfying time...unfortunately one of our number was absent because she is pretty ill...we miss her and are praying she will be healed and return to us (and her family). We collected cards for her at our Fellowship...Here's mine: Again, I used
a Pure Innocence stamp...this one is called "Better Get Better" (just like the message says)...I hope she enjoys our cards and gets well very soon. The papers are retired SU designer papers and of course I used a Spellbinders die...don't think I can make a card without one of thos dies! And I use Copics for coloring...

Of course, what is a fellowship without food? Most of us brought brunch-type food and it was delish...
I made a cinnamon coffee cake....there was way too much food, as usual, but I had to taste everything, so I came away quite stuffed.

Our teaching leader made a list of every description of Jesus Christ from our recent study in Hebrews...there were an enormous number of descriptions...she asked us which one has most impressed us. Mine was his role as our High Priest....when we studied Moses' life and the Exodus several years ago, we learned a bit about the role of the high priest in the tabernacle...so it was interesting to take that information and compare it to Christ's role as High Priest to every believer.

I love watching Ruby enjoy a fire in the evening...I thought cats were the only animals drawn to the warmth of a fireplace!

Day 5

Normally, this would be TGIF, but for me it is the last day of my week off.....well, there is the weekend...but it just won't be the same as having week days off **wink**

I'm off to the dentist and then I will try to muster the desire to do some cleaning...teeth cleaning/house cleaning...it's all good. After all, I'm grateful to God that I have my own teeth (neither of my parents had this privilege!) and thankful for my own home to clean....I can easily appreciate this as I look around my neighborhood at the signs for bank-owned properties.

I have a card to show, but frankly can't imagine having the time to make too many more..why don't I start this in July?

Isn't this a sweet card? Pure Innocence is the name of this line of stamps..this one is called "Christmas Caroler". Below is the inside: You can see that I'm not the best photographer! The inside message is from Stampin' Up..(probably retired by now).

Day 4

Today is Day 4 of my week off from work (well, day 6 if you count last weekend) and it has been a week from.....heaven! ....decorating, cooking, planning, long walks with Ruby, making Christmas cards and tags, watching Hallmark Christmas movies....I tell ya..I'm blessed.

Here are a couple of tags I made yesterday....I cheated and bought the actual tags from Taylored Expressions and then decorated them with stamps and such...the snowflake is made from a Tim Holtz die and the paper is Stampin' Up glitter paper (incredibly classy paper!). The ornament on the 1st tag is paired with a Spellbinders die...got them together from Our Daily Bread Stamps... and the sweet sayings fit right in the ornament....

This morning I used up some turkey that I froze after Thxgiving (had cooked a turkey breast in the crockpot)...and made Turkey Tetrazzini....quite a hearty meal and very tasty! This is FAR from being a food blog, but I like sharing recipes...I will compliment the recipes with "wonderful" and tastes great" because they are not my creations...I usually get them from someone else much more talented with food, altho Turkey Tetrazzini is considered an all-time favorite and classic.

Did anyone watch Trading Christmas on the Hallmark Channel? It was written by Debbie Macomber whose books I just love....she lost her husband not too long ago and I'm sure the theme in the movie was prompted by that event. It was such a warm story.. like all of her books.

Whew! Ruby finally decided to take a nap!

Ingredients

· 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

· 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

· 1-1/4 cups milk

· 1-1/2 cups chicken broth

· 1/2 teaspoon salt

· 1/4 teaspoon pepper

· 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

· 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

· 1/2 cup Swiss cheese, shredded

· 3-1/2 cups cooked egg noodles

· 2-1/2 cups cooked turkey chunks

· 8 ounces sliced mushrooms

· 1/2 cup frozen peas/or carrots/broccoli,etc.

· 1/3 cup breadcrumbs

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Whisk together butter, flour, milk and chicken broth in a 2.5 quart baking dish. Microwave on high for 6 minutes, stirring every two minutes. Keep an eye on mixture to make sure it doesn’t boil over in microwave.
Stir in salt, pepper, garlic powder, Parmesan and Swiss cheeses until combined and melted. Stir in egg noodles, turkey, mushrooms, and vegetables. Top with breadcrumbs

3. Bake 25-30 minutes, until top begins to brown, and casserole is bubbling.

The Kids

Wanted to add the most recent pictures of my "kids"...above is a picture of them in their favorite Winter spot...in front of the fireplace...then sleeping together...this is a rare shot...don't see them this close unless they are very tired. Seriously, Ruby the dog, is like living with a toddler...follows me everwhere, always tapping on my leg for a treat, looks up at me with those big eyes, must sit next to me whenever I sit down...always at my heels...but, I'm crazy about her so it's OK! Sophie, the cat, pretty much does her own thing...once in awhile, she'll reach up to grab my arm (when I'm sitting), just to remind me she's still around and needs attention. They are a very special addition to my life and home.

New Beginnings

Here I am...blogging again...OK, the problem is time! I am getting back to making cards and scrapping again...I've been detained in the world of distraction for awhile, but need the creativity in my life! I will be blogging as I make "things" and as the Lord leads. I want to give him full credit for the grace and guidance he gives to me. Without him, all is for naught!

And what about books? I'm always reading "something"...this time of year, at least from September to May, I'm in BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) and am always busy with lessons. We're studying Acts of the Apostles this year and recently we have been in the book of Hebrews..."Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Hebrews 12:2) So many rich lessons and verses in this book.

Then, FOOD! I subscribe to several food blogs and love to read about different recipes. If I cooked and ate all that I check out....Mmmmmm..let's just say, my body would be on "overload". I actually have more cookbooks than I will ever use..OCD? Could be...

Anyway, I plan to have fun with blogging and just hope to find the time to continue!
